Eva Ruby Rakes Cash, 89, passed away on December 16, 2017 in Roanoke, Virginia surrounded by her loving family. Ruby was born on July 7, 1927, in Rocky Mount, Virginia to Edward and Elizabeth Rakes.
Ruby was married in Danville, Virginia to Cecil Clarence Cash on November 18, 1946. Cecil preceded her in death on January 5, 2017. Ruby was also preceded in death by her mother, father, sister Gladys Hankins of Danville, Virginia and brothers Bill &Paul Rakes of Rocky Mount, Virginia. Ruby was a loving mother to two daughters, Joyce Cash Martin (Bernard) of Gordonsville, Virginia and Janice Cash Wilbourne Dunleavy of Roanoke, Virginia, grandmother to Christopher Byron Martin( Jennie)  , and great grandmother to Carly Grace Martin all of Gordonsville, Virginia. She is also survived by a devoted, loving brother, Nelson Rakes of Rocky Mount Virginia and special nephews Michael Rakes of Rocky Mount, Virginia, Richard Rakes of Salem, Virginia, Wilson (Linda) & Herschel Hankins both of Danville, Virginia, Johnny Floyd (Shirley) of Forest, Virginia, many friends especially devoted friend Nancy Wright of Roanoke, Virginia. Ruby also loved and will be missed by her three grand dogs, Roscoe, Bucky & Buddy.
Ruby worked for many years at Westside Day Care & Preschool preparing children for kindergarten and also at First Union Bank Child Development Center both in Roanoke, Virginia. She was friendly, kind, and dedicated, she took Child Care Provider Workshop Sessions offered by her employer. Topics included ; Building Self-Esteem in Children, Signs & Symptoms of Child Abuse & Assault, Accessing Children's Health, Discipline & Self-Confidence, Healthy & Safe Environments for Children, Caring for the After School Child and  a "Ready To Learn " Mini Conference.
Ruby was "An Angel on Earth" to everyone she met. Her beautiful smile and loving personality will be greatly missed. Thanks to Raleigh Court Health Care & Rehab Center for making "MAMA" feel secure, comfortable and loved.
A Memorial Service is planned for April 2018 in Roanoke, Virginia.
