NELSON ROOSEVELT SMITH

Nelson Roosevelt Smith, 92, of Salem, Va. was born on August 29, 1925, passed away February 17, 2018.  He was born in Montgomery County, Va. to the late Ira and Oretha Smith.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis G. Smith and a grandson, Jason Hodges.

Our Dad was a faithful member of his church, Grace Assembly of God in Catawba.  He loved the Lord, his family and friends and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his children, Brenda Hodges, of Martinsville, Duane and Kathy Smith, of Salem, Cheryl and Rick Wood, of Troutville, Dean and Trish Smith and Tony and Karen Smith, all of Salem; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Merle Graham, Jan Vaden, Billie Thornton, and Freda Gail Spears; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Catherine Smith, Wilma Smith, Doug Smith;  sisters-in-law and spouses, Wilma Smith, Ruby and Dan Edwards, of Bristol, Va., Sue Ward, of Salem,  Pam and Nelson Amos, of Penhook,  numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. 

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Grace Assembly of God, Catawba, Va. with Reverend Loraine Taylor officiating.  Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2018 at the funeral home.
