Joseph Olsen Herron

Joseph Olsen Herron, age 76, passed away peacefully on Friday October 20, 2017 in Roanoke, VA with his wife, family and friends by his side. 

Joseph (Joe) was born to Edwin Dewey Herron and Susie Presley Herron on December 9, 1940 in Suffolk, VA. 

Joe was a strong willed gentleman dedicated to family and friends with a passion for the grocery business. Joe’s dream was to own and operate his own grocery store and he fulfilled that dream in 1990 with the purchase of Galaxy Super Save in Roanoke, VA. He went on to live out that dream for 25 years touching many lives while making friends and creating memories along the way. 

Joe was preceded in death by his mother Susie Presley Herron, father Edwin Dewey Herron, sisters Myrtle Lee Gray and Evangeline Herron West. 

Joe is survived by his loving and caring wife of 55 years Elizabeth Guthrie Herron (Sug); two beautiful daughters and their husbands, Deborah Herron Carson and James Eric Carson, Dawn Herron Burdette and Chad McDaniel Burdette; three very special grandchildren, Jeremiah James Carson and wife Candace Ward Carson, Danielle Denise Carson, and Tyler Deven Burdette; mother-in-law, Margaret Guthrie; several brothers- in-law; many nieces, nephews and close family. 

Visitation will be held Wednesday October 25, 2017 from 2-4pm with a celebration of Joe’s life immediately following visitation at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, VA. 

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the Palliative Care unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Crystal Springs Dialysis Center and Friendship Manor Health and Rehab.
