Robert Dale Field

Robert Dale Field, of Salem, age 89, died on Thursday, July 18, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents; Thomas and Lyda Field; his wife, Nancy; and a brother, Donald Field. 

He is survived by a younger brother, Joseph Richard Field, of Wisconsin; and four children, David Field (Marianne) of Columbus, MS,  Sharon Crenshaw, of Roanoke, VA,  Charles (Rich) Field  (Dawn), of Salem, VA, and Robert (Brian/Rob) Field, of Naples, FL.;  four grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.

Born on February 26, 1930 in Kingwood, WV, Robert was the middle of 3 sons.  He moved frequently within Preston County, WV.  during the Depression years as his father sought employment as a grocer/butcher.  He met the love of his life (Nancy, the girl next door) when his family moved to Fairmont, WV in 1945. She used to tell their children that she would be in class and see him riding his motorbike in the school parking lot when he should have been in school himself.  He joined the Army after graduating from high school in 1948 and had tours in Korea and Vietnam, retiring in 1968 as a Specialist 7. He married Nancy in 1951, a marriage which lasted until her death in 2013.  The family moved to Salem in 1972 when Robert accepted a job with Sorbus as a computer repairman. He retired again at 55 and spent his retirement years enjoying his garden and traveling with his wife while their health was still good.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 22, 2019 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Lotz Funeral Home Salem.  A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park following visitation.
