William “Bill” Flannagan, 63, of Salem, Va., passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021. He was born August 27, 1957 in Salem, Va. He is preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Dennis and Rebecca Flannagan and a grandson, Matthew Flannagan.
His surviving family includes his mother, Nellie Davis; brothers, Dennis Flannagan Jr. and Bruce Flannagan; sisters, L. Diane Jackson and Lisa Kibler; sons, David Flannagan, and wife Jessica, and Brian Flannagan, and wife Korie; and grandchildren, Colton, Delaney and Hadley Flannagan. He is also survived by many great friends, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Bill retired from Conwed Plastics after 38 years of service. Throughout his life, he was an avid sports fan, especially of the Yankees. He could often be found on the softball field, basketball court, or playing a round of golf. He shared his knowledge of sports with countless young athletes through coaching youth leagues and umpiring/referring for all ages. His dedication will be missed by many.
A memorial gathering will occur at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 6pm to 8pm. The family will receive visitors at that time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local youth sports organization in Bill’s honor.
