VIRGINIA BAIER SIMMS

Virginia Baier Simms, September 26, 1929 - June 8, 2019.

Virginia "Ginny" Simms, loving mother, grandmother and friend to all, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Born to German immigrants, Richard and Hedy Baier on September 26th, 1929. Virginia was born and raised in Roanoke. She attended Jefferson High School where she met her love of 55 years Keith Simms.

Keith and Virginia lived in several states throughout Keith's career where they made lifetime friends everywhere they lived, mostly thru the many bridge, dinner and garden clubs that Virginia loved to join.  Together they lived in Raleigh, N.C. for over thirty years where Virginia spent her empty nest years working for the North Carolina Farm bureau. Much of their retirement time was spent between gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends at their beloved home on the coast of North Carolina.  In 1999 Keith and Virginia returned to their Virginian roots and resided in Salem for the rest of their years. It was here that Virginia had the tremendous opportunity to volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospice for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith and son, Martin. Virginia is survived by her loving sons and daughters- in- law, Paul and Shannon Simms, Mark and Vera Simms and her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Scott Harris; and three grandchildren, Samantha, Lucas and Matthew Simms.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the great care Virginia received from Good Samaritan Hospice, Lewis Gale Hospital Staff and her caregiver, Lottie Watson.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, SW Roanoke, VA 24018 or College Lutheran Church 210 S. College Ave. Salem, Va. 24153.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Lotz Funeral Home Salem.  Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Sherwood Memorial Park.
