Virginia Martin Hale

Virginia Martin Hale of Salem, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the age of 97.

Virginia was preceded in death by her late husband William Ross Hale, Jr. and her son Homer Lee Hale, as well as her brothers Homer Martin and Bernard Martin. She is survived by her son, Ross Hale and his wife Karen; sister Eileen Wimmer; grandsons Josh Hale and his wife Tracy, Travis Hale; and great-grandchildren, Mason Hale and Maclin Hale.

She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and family members who loved and supported her over the years.

Virginia was a devoted member of College Lutheran Church where she had been a member since the late 1940’s. She and her late husband owned a family run grocery store in Salem, Hale’s Grocery. After closing the store following the passing of her husband, Virginia began a career at Belk where she worked until her retirement. But her most beloved role was serving as a mother to her two sons Lee and Ross.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to College Lutheran Church in Salem.

The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home Salem from 10 to 11 a.m on Monday, February 27, 2023.    Following the visitation there will be a graveside service at Sherwood Memorial Park at 11 a.m.
