Susan Taylor McCormick Tinsley, 70, of Salem passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at her residence.
Susan was born in Chilhowie Virginia on May 5, 1948. She worked at East Salem Elementary School for 33 years as a special education teacher. She was a member of Fellowship Community Church where she was involved with the offering and greeting ministries. Susan had many passions which included gardening, flowers, music, dancing, a love for the beach, and the VT Hokies.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, M.J. “Sonny” Tinsley; two sons, Lee Johnson and wife Christine and Derek Tinsley and wife Casey; a daughter, Tiffanie Wiscombe and husband Jeff; eleven grandchildren, Taylor, Kelly, Nick, Tyler, Ashlyn, Tyler, Shelby, Aiden, Myla, Adam, and Anessa; and her brother, Frank Pugh and wife Katherine.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and son, Roy Johnson.
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, 1330 East Main Street, on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held at the Lotz Chapel in Salem on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00 am by Rev. Ken Neinke and Rev. Rick Elmore. A committal service will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
