Sidney Gordon Witt Sr

August 9, 1937 ~ July 27, 2021 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Tribute

On July 27, 2021 Sidney Gordon Witt Sr. (Poochie) 83 went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. He was born and raised in Elliston, Virginia and lived his life as a resident of Salem. Sidney is best known for his involvement in youth sports. He has a trophy case full of Little League championships and in 1978 he took his girls softball club to the Little League World Series. In addition he coached youth basketball and in 1989 shifted gears and helped to create the Challenger Little League division for mentally and physically challenged athletes.

He was a good provider to his family working at Eaton and retired from Medeco.

Devout member of Fort Lewis Christian Church where he served in many different capacities including Elder.

Sidney is welcomed into his eternal home by his beloved wife Connie Booher Witt also preceded in death by his parents Coy Witt Sr. and Dorothy Stewart Witt, his brother Coy Witt Jr. his sister Barbara Witt. He is survived by his sisters Freida Blankenship and husband Mark, Sue King, Betty Bland and husband Carl, and Pat Browning. His spirit is carried on by his surviving children, daughter Michelle Witt-Barnes and husband Marshall, son Sid Witt II and wife Dana, and three beautiful granddaughters, Micayla and Madison Barnes and Makena Witt along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family would like to thank the medical staff of Lewis Gale Hospital ICU Unit for their love and compassionate care for Dad.

Visitation will be held at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, Virginia Sunday August 1, 2021 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm followed by a celebration of life service on Monday August 2, 2021 at 11:00am and officiated by Reverend Dr. John Dunstan.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Fort Lewis Christian Church, 2931 West Main Street Salem, Virginia 24153.
