Early morning on 7/8/22 the world became a little less bright and heaven even more glorious with the passing of Ruby E Worley.
Ruby was born on 8/1/1921, living to be 100 years old. She grew up right here in the Roanoke Valley where she married Frank J Worley Sr. Together they raised four children, Frank Jr (Peggy) of Forest, Va, Judy Wimmer also of Forest, Lynda Castle of Hilton Head, SC and Vickie (Keith) Atkins of Vinton, Va. She was the youngest girl of a very large family and leaves only the youngest brother, Charles Lewis (Jane) Brookman of Rocky Mount. Although she was a homemaker most of her life she did work and retire from Roanoke Fashions, a few years after the death of her husband Frank. She soon begin traveling with her senior citizen friends to places like Niagara Falls and the Grand Old Opry. Five years ago when she became unable to see or live on her own she moved in with her daughter Vickie. She continued to be fiercely independent, spunky, and highly opinionated. She had favorite phrases that we will use forever like “you do what you’ve got to do“ or “it is what it is“. She was also kind and loving to family and friends, including slipping most of her biscuits to her canine Sidekick Lucy. Ruby had a close, personal relationship with Jesus. We will miss her terribly but look forward to the time that we will all gather together again.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Frank Worley and wife Peggy; three daughters, Judy Wimmer, Lynda Castle, and Vickie Atkins and husband Keith; a brother, Charlie Lewis Brookman and wife Jane; grandson, Seth Ruble; her K-9 companion, Lucy; and numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Monday, July 11, 2022 from 12:00 until 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the Chapel at Lotz Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memoriam gift to Good Samaritan Hospice. The family wishes to thank them, especially Lori, for their wonderful care and for helping us through this time.
