Robert (Bob) Carl Leighton, 92, of Virginia Beach, VA, formerly of Salem, VA, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022. He was born in Roanoke, VA, on April 10, 1930, the son of the late Ernest J. and Ruth E. (Nichols) Leighton.
Mr. Leighton was a member of Salem Church of Christ and a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School in Salem. He was a railroad man, retiring from Norfolk Southern after 31 years of service. Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who loved spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Virginia (Ann) Webster Leighton, and his identical twin brother, James H. Leighton. Left to cherish his memory are sons, James Robert Leighton (Carolyn) of Virginia Beach and Perry Carl Leighton (Denise) of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Wayne Howlett (Adrienne), Danielle Rossman, Aaron Leighton, and Cheryl Wenger (Charles); great-grandsons, Landon Howlett and Aiden Howlett; great-granddaughter, Peyton Howlett; and niece, Sandra Sweet (Michael). The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, June 15, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel in Virginia Beach. The family will also receive friends on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, VA, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
