Gene was called to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior this past Friday. 

Gene was known as the "Milkman" after serving this valley for many years. He worked so very hard most of his life. He raised his kids with that "give it all that you have" for whomever you work for mentality.

PawPaw was what he was called by his grandkids and great-grandkids. He would glow with that big smile when he was with them.

Gene had a very close family unit with his brothers and sisters. Family was everything to him. He loved spending time with them every chance he had. He loved the beach and longed to see it just one more time. He loved fishing with his buddy Joe along with his kids and grandkids.  Gene never met a stranger. He was always so caring and kind to those who had the privilege of meeting him.  Most of all he loved the Lord and thanked Him for everyday that He blessed him with.

Gene is survived by his wife Barbara Metz; he was the father to three kids; Gena Kidd (Faron), Ralston (Tony) Metz (Anita), Benjamin (Ben) Metz fiancé (Lisa); PawPaw to seven, Heather Kidd, Cody Kidd (Bridgett), Ralston (TJ) Metz, Andrew (Drew) Metz ( Alisyn), Kyle Wood, Stephanie Wyatt, Autumn McCargo, Ciara Metz; Great PawPaw to ten, Mitch, Alayna, Kenzie, Kaylee, Cade, Hunter, Leah, Taelen, Adonis, Amarii;  brothers and sisters, James (Jim) William Metz (Cynthia), Harry Curtis Metz (Mary Helen), Norma Jane Thornhill (Bill), Lois Marie Ferris (Donnie), Paul David Metz (Pam); many nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews.

Gene is preceded in death by his Father Ralston Mercer Metz, Mother Ruth Virginia Authur Metz, Sisters Ruth Elizabeth Reynolds and Julia Ann Metz.

The family would like to thank you all for the prayers, food and help that was given by so many. May God bless you all.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.at Lotz Funeral Home Salem. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Lotz Salem Chapel.
