Ruth Jones Gibbs, 87, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 surrounded by family. She was born on November 26, 1932 in Bonsack, VA., and lived most of her life in Roanoke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lydia Jones; three brothers, Lewis, Edward and Charles Jones; her husband, of 46 years, James Warren Gibbs; and her daughter-in-law, Ginger Gibbs. She is survived by three daughters, Patty Harvey, Barbara Warren, Karen Atkins and husband, Jerry Atkins; and two sons, Jimmy Gibbs and wife, Virginia Gibbs and John Gibbs. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Jason Collins, Jacob Warren, Josh Warren, Dominque Warren, Matthew Atkins, Justin Gibbs, Kristin Gibbs, Timothy Gibbs, Christopher Gibbs and David Gibbs; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, countless church family members, and many friends.
Ruth’s favorite things in life were her family and her unwavering love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For those who knew her would all agree that she defined how to live your life as a Christian while on this side of heaven. Never speaking negatively of anyone, she touched countless lives with her sweet kindness, unrelenting love, and a passionate desire that all would come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. In her own works, she would say, “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”. Ruth was a beloved member of CommUNITY Church in Salem, VA.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at CommUNITY Church with Pastors Thomas McCracken and Dan Carawan officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens on Airport Road in Roanoke.
