Ruth Ella Garrett, affectionately known as "Gran" to some family and friends, was born in Tazewell, VA, on December 2, 1950, to Charley and Arminta Bandy. She was the youngest girl amongst 13 brothers and sisters. Ruth and her family later moved to Roanoke County, where she spent most of her life, raised her two sons, and married.
Ruth was a devout Christian and attended church at Ridgewood Baptist. Ruth was independent and hard-working. She spent most of her career working in the banking industry before retiring and working for the Roanoke County Department of Social Services for several years.
Ruth loved her family with all of her heart and did everything she could to make them happy. All who had the pleasure of spending time with her could tell you how much family meant to her.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, David Garrett and siblings Robert, Bill, Glenn, Dora, Walter, and John.
Ruth is survived by her two sons, Stephen and Michael Church; two daughters-in-law, Jan and Amy; grandchildren, Victoria, Haley, Austin and Peyton; sisters, Dorothy Thomas and Nannie Buffalow; brothers, Charlie, Steve, Lake, and Phillip Bandy; sisters-in-law, Susan, Linda, Rhonda, Jackie, Verney, and Brenda Bandy; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and soon to be born great-granddaughter, Everleigh.
