February 2, 1936 ~ March 5, 2023 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Tribute

Matthew 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Peggy Ann Tolbert, 87, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 5th, 2023.     She was born on February 2, 1936 in Roanoke, VA to Elsie and Rice Turner who predeceased her.

She was the youngest of five children, Marie Guilliams, Aline Gregory, Marvin Turner and Jimmy Turner, all gone before her.  Also preceding her in death were her niece and nephews, Judy Cuddy, Robert Gregory, Jr. and Bill Manning.  She is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, who were more like her children.  They include Norman Gregory, Steve (Wilma) Guilliams, Brenda Manning, Debbie (Gary) Hines, and Trena (Butch) Lewis.  She had many beloved great nieces and nephews she loved as well. She was especially close to her nephew Brennan Lewis who she called grandson.  Peggy is also survived by her best friends, Barbara Wilfong, Carla Cruise, Lyssa Stroud, Loretta Edge and many others.

If there was only one word to describe Peggy, it would be faithful.  She was faithful to God, first and foremost, and faithful to her family and friends.  Peggy was one of a kind, she loved deeply and although she never had a lot in life, she would give you the shirt off her back.  You would never meet a more loving and giving lady.  She had a great love for all animals especially dogs.  She adopted many and they would always be the senior and most needy pets and she gave them a loving home.

The thing Peggy loved most about life was sharing God’s Word to all.  She served Him faithfully and fully.  She served the church in many ways including bible school.  Peggy read through her entire bible every year and she kept a list of who she needed to pray for so she would not leave anyone out.  Peggy was an original member of Open Bible Baptist Church.

Peggy retired as office manager from Snyder Nursing Home where she made lifelong friends among the staff and all the residents.  She loved working there.

We would like to thank all the staff at Friendship South who took amazing care of Peggy.  She gained even more friends at her new home there.  She loved them all dearly.  We so appreciate the excellent care they gave her especially, nurse practitoner Julie Simmerson and  nurse Susan Jones.   We would also like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their outstanding care as well.  Peggy could not have been in better hands.

She will be missed by so many, but we are comforted to know she is now in the hands of God.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Samaritan’s Purse or Angels of Assisi.

Lotz Funeral Home of Salem is serving the family.  Peggy requested a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery.  It will be officiated by Pastor Marvin Lloyd at 1:00 on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
