Maurine Nester

Maurine Nester, passed away in Martinsville, Virginia on Sunday, September 11, 2022.  Maurine was born in 1923 to Florence E. and Frank L. Johnson. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuard M. Nester; sisters, Wilma Jean (Bonds) Comer, Alice Jones, Reba Oberndorfer, Iona Oliver; brother, Frank L. Johnson, Jr.; son-in-law, Brown Lee Martin, Jr.

Surviving family; daughters, Deborah Martin, of Salem, Dawn Witt (Milford), of Martinsville, Diane Laws (Philip), of Tennessee; grandchildren, Angela Beam (Jeff), M. Curtis Witt (Jennifer), Paige Scott (Keith), Jonathan Witt (Corrinne), Jennifer Yeaman (Johnny);  great-grandchildren, Tyler Beam (Rachel), Jessica Beam, Nicholas Witt, Michael Witt, Morgan Scott, Mallory Scott, Megan Scott, Lucas Witt, Lillian Witt; sister-in-law, Norma P. Johnson; many nieces, nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

Maurine will be remembered for her loving dedication to her family and her Lord.  As a faithful member of Edgewood Christian Church (Roanoke), she served as treasurer, taught ladies and children’s Sunday school classes, sang in the choir, served as a deaconess and was leader of the “Young At Heart” senior group.  She also loved crafting and working with her flowers.

A private graveside service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park. A memorial service will also be held at a later date.
