Marjorie Taney Gordon, 72, passed away Thursday, September 14th, at her home in Salem, Va. Marjorie was a 9th generation Salemite and daughter of James P. and Anne R. Taney. She is survived by her loving husband, Barry Gordon; daughter Carrie Cox, and her husband, Justin; son Ryan Ward; son Kris Ward, and his wife, Paige; stepdaughter Amy Gordon Montgomery, and her husband Kelly; stepson David Gordon, and his wife Amber; and her cherished grandchildren Shannon and Tristan Cox, Gabriel Ward, Emily and Derek Gordon. She is also survived by her loving poodle, Lydia.
Marjorie was a woman of many interests and loves: Salem, the beach, shag dancing, camping (though in a camper, not a tent!), reading, crafting, plants, dogs, dog breeding & showing, bird watching, and, once her grandchildren came along, Minecraft. She will be remembered for the light of her spirit, her kindness and compassion, her full-bodied exclamations of happiness and warm extensive hugs, her seasonal decorating, and her knowledge of seemingly every Salemite that ever there was.
A Celebration of Life ceremony is being held on the lower patio at El Jefe in Salem on Sunday, September 24th. In case of rain or if you have any questions please contact Carrie at 540-589-6535.
