Lora Bell Blankenship Greer left this life and went to be with her Savior on Saturday, November 6, 2021. She was born in 1929 to Robert and Ruth Blankenship and was the third of five siblings. She grew up in Ironto, Virginia, and moved to Salem where she lived the remainder of her life. In addition to raising her five children, she worked at various restaurant and retail locations in Salem and was well known by many. Lora was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Plead “Ted” Greer along with her parents and her four siblings, Cecil Blankenship, Edna Marie Blankenship Spangler, Charles “June” Blankenship, and Mary Alice “Nadeen” Blankenship Proffit Woodward.
Surviving are her five children, Carol Caudill, Karen “Ginger” Greer, Valerie (Brent) Varela, Susan (Jim) Houk and Joe (Marie) Greer; four granddaughters, Taylor (Mike) Daly, Caitlin (David) Strickland, Braedon (Matt) Houk, and Alexis Varela; and three great-grandchildren, Parker Houk, Jack Daly, and Caroline Strickland.
The family wishes to thank the Intensive Care and Palliative Care teams at Lewis-Gale Hospital and Amedisys Hospice for their care of Lora.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, November 9, 2021, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Stephen Parker officiating, followed by burial at Sherwood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Living Well Church of the Nazarene in Salem, Virginia, in Lora’s honor.
