Jerry Mack Horton (Pop Pop) went on home the other day; he wanted to be with his Heavenly Father and catch up on old times. Pops spent his last moments in this world on Dec 12th, 2019, at his home in New Castle, VA, surrounded by the love of his family.
Pops was born on November 23rd, 1947, to his parents, Mirl and Mary Horton, in Winters TX. On February 16th, 1973, he married Beckie, who was the love of his life. Together, they brought up their four Girls and Son. Jerry and Beckie were also Mom and Pops to over 40 other children whose life circumstances brought to their home.
Jerry was a jack of all trades. It seemed he knew a little something about everything. Jerry knew how to live life. He enjoyed bull riding, oil rigs and Wrasslin’, but Jerry’s great honor was living for the Lord, serving as a Pastor and leading others to the Lord.
Jerry is now with his family, who went home before him, his parents, 4 Sisters, 3 Brothers, and Daughter Gracie, who he has now met for the first time. Jerry will be missed until we are all together again by; His Wife Beckie Horton, Brothers Larry & Harrold Horton, Daughters Amy Horton, Ruthie Horton Arthurs, Sandi Jones and Husband Junior Jones, Gerri VanDyke and Husband Shaun VanDyke, Son Scott Barrett, Grandchildren Blake Harris and wife Bri Harris, Jakob Jones, Ashlynn Arthurs, Alexus Jones, Shaun VanDyke, Bradley Arthurs, Zoie VanDyke, Gunner VanDyke, and Great-grandson Korbyn Harris. Other grandchildren include Kat, Joseph, Selah, Mikey, Breann, Dannie, Autumn, Dawson, Remi, Christian, Devon, Connor. Other great-grandchildren include Charles Jr., Rylee, Kylee, Katlynn, and the numerous other nieces, nephews, family, friends, all those that called him Pops.
To know Jerry was to know Love. He believed in living a Godly example for others to follow. He loved to share Jesus with everyone he came into contact with. He loved unconditionally. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Go rest High up on the Mountain Daddy, we will see you soon.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, Dec 15th, at 2 pm at Grace Assembly of God in Catawba with a Celebration of Life service at 4 pm.
