Tribute

James R. “Jim” Pate, 80, of Salem passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019 at his residence.

A native of Murfreesboro, TN he was the husband of 45 years to Mary Pate who survives and the son of Dooley Gentry Pate and Mattie Austin Pate, both deceased. He was a veteran of the United States Marines serving as a pilot during the Vietnam War and Korean Conflict. Jim worked with Hubbell Lighting for 29 years most recently serving as Director of Marketing. He was a talented guitar player who played with the Grand Ole Opry Stage Band and Marty Robbins. Jim was also the administrator for the Christian Soldiers facebook page.

In addition to his wife he was survived by four daughters, Deborah Snellings-Pate (Deana); Cynthia Walton (Mark), Sherraine Williams (Tim), and Mandy Churchill (Matt); three sons, Warner Pate, Ben Edwards, and Robert Pate (Sally); ten grandchildren, Justin Edwards, Stevenson Dennis (Ashley), Robert Dennis (Meghan), Vincent Edwards (Cinthia), Charlotte Edwards, Dale Pate, Carson Williams, Madelyn Williams, William Churchill, and Edward Churchill; four great grandchildren, Kayden, Anevay, Reverend, and Minerva; a sister, Judy Pigg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, 1330 East Main Street, on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow in the Lotz Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ken Neinke officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with military honors.
