James H. Lawrence

James H. Lawrence, 91, of Salem passed away at Lewis Gale Medical Center on Tuesday, June 25, 2019.

He was born in Alabama and later moved to Pond Creek Kentucky where he felt blessed to have been raised during a defining period of his life. James was the husband of the late Jean Moyer Lawrence and the son of James Lawrence and Emma Riley Lawrence, both deceased. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was a manufacturing engineer with General Electric and retired from ITT. James was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He loved sports, fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. James coached basketball and baseball with Salem Parks and Recreation for many years. He also owned many antique shops with his wife for many years.

He is survived by two sons, James M. Lawrence and wife Kay and John D. Lawrence and wife Teresa; three grandchildren, Nicole Woodall and husband Woody, Jenifer Rhoton, and David Lawrence and wife Tiffany; and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Dunstan and Kitty Scott.

The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, 1330 East Main Street, on Friday, June 28, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.

A graveside service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Salem Presbyterian Church.
