James C Haga

James Cecil Haga of Salem, VA passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023. Jim who was lovingly known to his family as Cecil, was born on August 15, 1935 in Max Meadows, VA to his parents, the late Charles and Elsie Haga.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, the late Bonnie Jean Grubb; brothers, Leon Haga and Carl Haga; and sisters, Ruth Collins and Margaret Ellen Rogers.

Jim is survived by daughters, Jennifer (Chuck) Gearheart, Rhonda (Mark) Lee, and Dee (Kevin) Pellant; grandchildren, Johnathan (Jessie) Lee, Scott Lee, Matthew (Meghann) Gearheart, Travis Gearheart, Camden (Hannah) Pellant and Torren Pellant; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Lee, Nathan Lee, and Cade Gearheart. He is also survived by his brother, Howard Buford Haga; sister, Barbara Jean Smith; and brother-in-law, Bobby Rogers.

After high school, Jim served his country in the US Army. Jim and Bonnie then settled in Salem, where he began his career with General Electric. After 35 years, Jim retired from General Electric where he made many lifelong friends. He loved to play golf, travel, dance and in recent years, he enjoyed watching birds and wildlife. He loved to spend time with family. He will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2023 with a service following at 2:00 pm at Lotz Salem Chapel. The Rev. John Thompson will officiate followed by graveside service with military honors at Sherwood Memorial Park.
