JAMES WILLIAM BAKER

James (Jim) William Baker, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the age of 86. He joins his beloved wife, Nancy who passed away in 2002. Jim was born October 2, 1930 in Pence Springs, WV and was the last surviving child of the late Lamar and Hattie Miller Baker.

Jim had the good fortune to share a ride with a friend to work at the Celanese Plant in Pembroke, VA, when he met Nancy Barnett riding in the same car. They married in 1948 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Jim was a retired truck driver having worked at Fawell Fast Freight and the City of Salem. He was a lover of nature and country music and many weekends were spent camping or playing music with a group of friends known as “Jimmy Baker and the Barnett Brothers.”

Jim is survived by his daughter, Brenda B. (Mark) Oakes and son, Daniel (Karen) Baker, grandchildren: William Sean (Lydia ) Hayslett, Cheri (John) Lankford, Sara Baker, Tyler (Kala) Ferguson, and Kristen (Trevor) Bowman, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great - great grandchild.

A private graveside service will be held at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
