Henry Nelson Platter of Salem, VA., passed from this life on Sunday, October 27, 2019. He was born in Meyersdale, PA., on February 4, 1945. Henry lived in Grantsville, MD and Front Royal, VA., in his early childhood and moved to Salem in 1954. He graduated from Andrew Lewis High School and attended Bridgewater College.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Fenton H. and Mable Orendorf Platter; his first wife, Bonnie Lovern Platter; and his brothers, Lowell and David.
Henry is survived by his wife, Phyllis Reed Platter; his daughter, Michelle Platter; and his sister, Ruth Platter, of Florida; in addition to nephews and nieces.
Henry worked many years for the McDonald's organization. He was a very active member of the Green Hill Church of the Brethren where he was a most valued member of the choir. Henry loved sports and was always a very enthusiast fan, especially Salem High School football.
Henry was well loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
There will be a celebration of Henry's life on Friday, Nov.1, 2019, 11 a.m. at Green Hill Church of the Brethren with a reception following.
