HAYDEN M. FURROW

July 7, 1925 ~ August 14, 2020 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Tribute

Hayden Mayo Furrow Sr. went home to be with his beloved Lord and Savior on Friday, August 14, 2020.  Hayden, a resident of Salem VA, was 95 years old when he passed.

Hayden served with the 8th Infantry in WWII where he was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.  In 2014 he was awarded the French Legion of Honor award at the rank of Knight.  After his retirement from the US Naval Air Systems Command, Hayden began his second career leading Christian mission teams and volunteering with his church, the D-Day Memorial, the Red Cross, Lewis Gale Hospital, and a variety of other mission organizations throughout the Roanoke Valley.

The son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Furrow, Hayden is survived by the love of his life Catherine of whom he was married to for 73 years; his brother John Furrow, and sisters Judy Furrow Marshall and Jane Furrow Jesse; children and grandchildren, Hayden “Skip” Furrow Jr. (Joel and Hillary Furrow and Matthew Furrow), Cathy and Dan Althouse (Stephanie and Vincent Scriva and John Brooke and Christie Althouse), and John and Beverley Furrow (Lindsay and Will Donovan, Caleb and Emily Furrow, and Joshua Furrow); and preceded in death by siblings Margarite Furrow Charles, Virginia Furrow Swann and Georgie Belangia; and daughter by marriage Anne Mullins Furrow and grand-daughter by marriage Cassidy Matheson Furrow.  Hayden also has 13 great-grandchildren.

A Viewing and Celebration of Life will be held at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 11:00 am and 12:00 pm respectively.  In lieu of flowers and gifts the family asks that donations be made to the Cave Spring Baptist Church Missions Fund at 4873 Brambleton Ave, Roanoke, VA 24018.
