Gayle DeHaven

Gayle P. DeHaven, 82, of Salem, VA went to be with the Lord on Saturday November 26th, 2022.

Gayle was born on November 11th, 1940, in Roanoke, VA to Morton H. Poindexter SR. and Dora Ethel Fielder. She left behind many friends and a loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and loved animals of every kind. She devoted her a large portion of her life to caring for many children over the years with many of whom she remained in contact with. She enjoyed cooking her famous Southern dishes for her family and friends. She enjoyed thrifting and decorating her home. Her main passion was loving her fur babies and spending time with her family and extended family, including a great-granddaughter in-law Stephonie Richardson.

She is preceded in death by her parents Morton H. Poindexter SR. and Dora Ethel Fielder, her beloved husband of 64 years, Clarence A. DeHaven and her brother M.H Poindexter JR.

Survivors include her children, Cheryl Richardson and Risden of Roanoke, VA, Matt DeHaven of Salem, VA, Tina Mountcastle and Scott of Salem, VA; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill and Jimmy Poindexter, both of Roanoke, VA; and a great-grandson whom they helped raise, Austin Richardson of Salem, VA.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care during this time.
