Freddie Amburgey, of Salem, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Predeceased him in death was his “shining light” a son, Brett Amburgey.  Also, other family members include his Mom and Dad, Curt and Beulah Amburgey; brother, Gaines Amburgey; two sisters, Dana Johnson (his buddy) and Midge Amburgey; two special nephews, Danny Prietz, Curt Amburgey; a great niece Brittany Sowers.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann; two brothers, Richard Amburgey and wife, Mary, of Castlewood, VA.; Terry Amburgey and wife, Maria, of Moneta, VA.; a sister, Shirley Prietz, of Baltimore, MD.; a special brother-in-law, Bill Johnson; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly (too many to name) and two special adopted nieces, Lisa and Tara.
Freddie was born in Russell County, VA. on October 31, 1943 and moved to Salem, VA. in 1968.  He enjoyed hunting and camping but mostly he loved roaming those old mountains, especially in the fall.  He leaves behind his two Special friends, Avery McClellan and Bill Foster whom he wants to carry on the “tradition”.
Freddie served his country for four years as a United States Marine.  He was a disabled Veteran and a member of VFW Post 4491, New Castle, VA   “Once a Marine always a Marine”, Semper Fi and God Bless. His favorite quote “I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life, I was given life that I might enjoy all things.”
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 2 p.m. at Lotz Salem Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 11 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
