Elva Garman Sirry

Elva Garman Sirry, 89, lifelong resident of Catawba, departed this life on Monday, November 28, 2022 at the UVA Medical Center following a short battle with complications from a vascular condition.  Born on October 27, 1933 to the late Garland and Goldie Garman, she was also preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years Earl Lewis Sirry, their son Donald Lewis Sirry, her in-laws Ernest and Violet Sirry, brothers Curtis, Emory, and Sherman Garman, and sister Sarah Boone.  Left to cherish her memory are three children: Dale Sirry, Susan Steger (David), and Carol Griffin (Larry); six grandchildren Daryl Sirry, Daniel Sirry (Chastity), Greg Elmore, Blaine Sirry, Clint Steger (Kelly), and Andrew Sirry (Beck).  Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, brothers Orval “Pete” Garman and Richard Garman (Judy), sister Marjorie Loope (Billy), sisters-in-law Darlene Garman and Kathy Garman, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.  Especially near-and-dear great-grand Weston Elmore and friend Alice Ricucci.

Elva was a member of Shiloh Union Church since childhood where she still attended regularly to worship with her loving church family.  After God and her family, Elva’s passions were many and are impossible to rank:  dairy farming, gardening and puttin’ by, quilting, gospel music, cooking (especially magnificent noon-day meals), word puzzles, and barn cats.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1st from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem.  Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Ben Lockhart at Shiloh Union Church on Friday, December 2nd at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Hall Cemetery which is appropriately located on Newport Road halfway between her home and her church. Carpooling to service is recommended.
