Ellen H. Grubb was born in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, England in January 1927. She was a war bride and a life-long residence of Salem, Virginia.
Ellen was very proud to have become an American citizen around 1970. She had an American flag flying in her yard.
She was employed by Yale and Town for over ten years and retired from ITT after 32 years of service.
Ellen trusted Jesus as her personal Savior at age 58. She was a member of Glenvar Baptist Church for the last fifteen years. Ellen loved listening to the Christian radio station for sermons, and gospel hymns. She enjoyed studying and reading her Bible. Many times she also supported Christian Aid Projects and was a faith-promise missionary supporter.
Her interest included feeding birds, flower and vegetable gardening and shopping. She always enjoyed buying rings, shoes and pocketbooks.
Ellen’s great enjoyment was being with her children, grandchildren and then great-grandchildren. Her house was filled with their photos.
Ellen was a godly women and a great example to her family for her hard work and caring heart. She was affectionately referred to as “Mammaw and “Nannie” by the grandchildren.
Her survivors include two brothers in England, Norman Howard (Joan), Bernard Howard (Jean) and 7 nieces and nephews; her children, Glenn Palmer (Charlotte), Tony Palmer (Donna), Mark Grubb, Heather Grubb Frazier (Brian); grandchildren, Karen Palmer Henson (Michael), David Palmer (Anne), Daniel Palmer (Chelsea), Charity Palmer Hall (Stephen), James Palmer (Brittany), Hilary Frazier Dietels (Jacob), Leslie Frazier; great grandchildren, Maddison Palmer, Ethan Palmer, Savannah Palmer, Ayrton Palmer, Julia Hall, Ashleigh Hall, Ethan Hall, Justin Henson (Kayla), Katelyn Henson, Abigail Henson, Isaiah Henson, Sarah Henson; step-great grandchildren, Jason Christian Bayer, Gabrielle Bayer. Pallbearers will include, David Palmer, Daniel Palmer, James Palmer, Justin Henson, Isaiah Henson, Mark Grubb.
Funeral service will be Friday, March 30, 2108 1 p.m. at Lotz Salem Chapel with Reverend Myron Powell officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 29, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home Salem.
