Doris Hite Boone

Doris Hite Boone, 89, of Roanoke passed away at her residence on May 25, 2021.

A native of West Virginia she was the wife of the late James H. Boone, Sr. and the daughter of Samuel Powell Hite, Sr. and Eva Foster Hite, both deceased. Doris was also preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Powell Hite, Jr. She became a nurse in 1955 and continued working until her retirement in 1991. Doris was a member of Mountain Pass Baptist Church. She served as a leader for the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts. She was a member of the Roanoke Memorial Nursing Association.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Preston; son, James H. Boone, Jr. and wife Suzanne; six grandchildren, Carrie Preston, Charles Preston, Andrew Preston, Jamie Percy and husband Travis, Jessica Boone, and Jennifer Boone; a great granddaughter, Olyvia; a sister, Betty Hatchell; and one brother, Benjamin Hight.

The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.

A funeral service will be held in the chapel at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 10:00 am by Pastor Jack Richards. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
