Denise Marie Collins

Denise Marie Collins, 57, left this earthly realm on May 21, 2023 after a long battle with ALS at home surrounded by family. 

A native of Massachusetts she was the wife of 39 years to her high school sweetheart, Thomas Collins, who survives, and the daughter of Barbara Burdo and Frank Burns, both deceased. Denise was a graduate of Glastonbury High of Glastonbury, CT. While in high school she was part of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) where she served as secretary. In addition to being a devoted military wife Denise’s passion after high school was working with special education children. Everyone that met Denise remembers her smile, she was loved by many. She loved to travel, being outdoors, and the love of all animals.

In addition to her husband of 39 years those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Heather Collins of Jackson, New Jersey; granddaughter, Aurora Rose Collins of Jackson, New Jersey; sister, Kathleen Marreo and husband Luis of Smyrna, Tennessee; two brothers, Daniel Burns and wife Sandy of Roanoke, Virginia and Michael Burns of Buxton, Maine; sister in law, Amy Golas and husband Steve of Galax, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and in-laws.

A right of committal will be held on July 1, 2023 at 11:00 am at Saint Andrew Diocesan Cemetery, 3601 Salem Turnpike NW, Roanoke, VA 24017.

Her family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the ALS Foundation in the name of Denise Collins.
