David Wayne Shaver Jr

December 26, 1969 ~ January 10, 2020 (age 50) 50 Years Old

Tribute

David W Shaver Jr., 50, of Salem went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 10, 2020 after fighting a courageous battle with Cancer.

He was born December 26, 1969. Ensuring his arrival into the world would never be forgotten, during a blizzard and 15 inches of snow had fallen and whether they would ever get to the hospital in time and how they would get out of the “holler”, a story his parents would often reminisce.

David would grow up and marry his soul mate, Angela Dunahoo, in 1997. After 16 years of marriage the couple welcomed their daughter, Kyleigh Alexis, into their lives in 2013. Becoming a daddy, this gift from God, was what David proclaimed to have been his highest honor. He was a remarkable and loving father and it was his greatest accomplishment.

David enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, camping and had a love for being outdoors. He took pride in everything he did, even if it was just mowing the lawn. He often took on projects around the house and had a talent for building and remodeling. There was nothing he couldn’t do and he took pride in his work. David was a hard worker and rarely sat down to relax. David had a soft heart for kids and was known for spoiling those kids, whether he was winning them stuffed animals from the claw machines, playing with them in the yard, or dressing up as Santa at Christmas and going to all the neighbor houses, he sought enjoyment in seeing a child’s face light up.

Along with his wife and daughter, David is survived by his parents, Brenda Beckner Shaver and David Shaver Sr and step mother Dee Cale, two sisters, Kim Traxel, Melissa Fender and brother in law Jason Fender. Mother in law Linda (Gay) Sprouse and step father in law Russell (Russ) Sprouse and father in law Marvin Dunahoo. Brother in law David Dunahoo and sister in law Meredith Dunahoo. 7 special nieces that he always held a place in his heart for and was known to them as Uncle Da-Da, Ashley Shaver, Brittany O’Neill, Heather Taylor, Christina Traxel, Tiffany Ward, Abigail Dunahoo, and Hailey Dunahoo. 2 great nieces, Emily O’Neill and Nevaeh Taylor and 1 great nephew Grayson Ward. And 2 fur babies, Maddie and Boozer.

The family wishes to thank the numerous doctors and staff that treated David. A special thanks to Dr. William Fintel and staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Dr. Luyimbazi and Dr. Bishop and their staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Also, Carilion Home Health and Carilion Hospice for their caring, professionalism, comforting, and compassionate support.

By his side as his health declined was his sister and brother in law, Melissa and Jason, the support you provided will never go unrecognized and greatly appreciated.

David surrendered his heart, body and soul to God. A special thanks to Riverside EMC for welcoming David into your family and assisting in bringing him closer to the Lord.

David will be deeply missed by his family, friends, co-workers and all that knew him.
