David Earl Adkins

David Earl Adkins, of Montvale, Virginia, entered into rest on Thursday, October 7, 2021.  He was born in Dante, Virginia on October 12, 1951 to his parents, Earl Furnell Adkins and Leatrice Joy Adkins.     

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, David Matthew Adkins; and his daughter, Jessica Lynne Adkins; granddaughter, Charlee Robtison; grandson, Harper Robtison; brother Jack Smith and sister-in-law, Linda Smith; nephew, Marc Smith; niece, Jennifer Smith; aunts that acted as big sisters for the fellas in the family Ann Amburgey and Ruth Gibson. 

David graduated Andrew Lewis High School in 1970, being one of the first members of his family to graduate high school.  He lived in Montvale, Virginia for most of his adult life where he raised his children.  David worked with Clinton Saunders, a man that he respected and cherished not as an employer but more of a best friend, from the 1980’s through present day.

David is the most selfless, honest and caring individual that anyone has ever had the privilege of knowing. He lived for his family and close friends, whether it was weekly family dinners or driving his grandchildren to and from school. He loved working on his land, whether it was yard work, repairing a tractor, tinkering with a farm truck or spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He loved spending time with his family on the front porch of the property he diligently cultivated throughout his life.  He loved being outside.

“The most wonderful father we could ever ask for and so thankful that he was ours”.

The family will have a gathering of friends for visitation at Lotz Funeral Home Salem on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 2 to 4 pm.
