Donald "Don" G.  Peterson

July 6, 1936 ~ February 26, 2019

Donald "Don" G. Peterson, of Salem, Virginia, left this world to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ February 26, 2019.

 Don was born July 6, 1936  in Clarion, Iowa, and was preceded in death by his wife, June M. Peterson and his parents, Clarence M. Peterson and Isabelle M. Peterson.

 He is survived by his sister, Mary L. Beckman; daughter, Laura; and son, John , of Leesburg.

 Don enlisted in the United States Air force in 1957 serving five years. He then attended Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames , Iowa, graduating with a Bachelor's of Science and Humanities in English and Speech.

His career of thirty - five years was at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in the District of Columbia, in the Production of Money Management and Distribution and the destruction of old currency.

 Don was an avid volunteer. He coached little league soccer for the local Bren Mar youth sport team, was a crossing guard at the elementary school, captain for the neighborhood watch, and worked to promote safety and cycling lanes in Fairfax County.

 After living in Northern Virginia for thirty - three years, he and his wife found home here in Salem, enjoying the vistas, cycling, bowling, and playing his clarinet. He enjoyed making many friends here and his church.

 There will be a Memorial service at New Life Presbyterian Church, located at 101 Keesling Avenue, Salem, VA.   24153, on March 9, 2019 at 2 p. m. There will be refreshments following the service.
