Charles Edward Lawrence

Charles Edward Lawrence, known to many as Eddie or Indian, and Pawpaw to his grandchildren, of Salem, VA passed away on May 8, 2023 at the age of 77.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Robert Edward (Eddie) Lawrence; his daughter in law Amanda Lawrence; his grandchildren, Kaiya Lawrence, Ivree Lawrence, Luca Lawrence, Maybry Lawrence, Syrinati Lawrence, Kqora Lawrence, and Agira Lawrence; and great granddaughter, Mazraiyn Mabery; brothers, Joey Lee Lawrence and wife Deane, Rodney Wayne Lawrence and wife Kim; and sister, Terri Lynn Lyons. His memory will live on with his nieces and nephews, Mike Lawrence, Kim Dooley, Scott Lawrence, Sarah Whitt, Margee Clarke, and Tanner Gregory and their families. Also dearly loved by his stepchildren, Sonja Divers, Tonya Mullins and Joseph Mullins.

Eddie was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Hale Lawrence and Margaret Lee Rhodes Lawrence.

Eddie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Senior Communications Specialist. He retired from General Electric Company of Salem, VA with over 35 years of service. In retirement, he dutifully kept track of the trout truck schedule, the fish in the Roanoke River will rest a little easier in Eddie’s absence.

If you asked Eddie, his greatest accomplishment would not have been his biggest catch or his long-standing career, it was being a loving and devoted grandad. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, Kaiya, Ivree, and great granddaughter Mazraiyn. They say, he was the most genuine person, always kind and he was an exemplary role model. He showed them unconditional love; and was their best friend. Eddie was loved by many and will be missed by all that knew him.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the funeral home.
