Charlotte Louise Moore Reese, 93, of Salem, Virginia died on Saturday, September 2, 2023 from complications due to Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) and Stroke (CVA). She was born October 22, 1929 in Salem to Dewey Henry and Ethel Moran Moore. Charlotte graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1947 and then attended beauty school having worked at Colonial Beauty Shoppe in Salem until 1952. She became the “go too” hair cutter/fixer for family and friends. Her shears were always sharpened! Charlotte was married on March 31, 1950 to the love of her life. She became a stay at home mom, raising her two beloved boys, Wayne and Steve. Charlotte and her family were members of First Christian Church in South Salem. One thing that you could tell from Charlotte was her love for all of her family. I would venture to say she kept Fred and George and Wayne and Steve in line. She took on that role with all of the “peeps” in the memory units. She was so funny trying to keep everything running smoothly.
We have had so many fun times, Hallmark moments, memorable outings and hundreds of photos documenting our world with Ms Charlotte. Our hearts are broken, our eyes are filled with tears of sadness, our world forever changed.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of then 70 years Garland Lynwood Reese, her parents Dewey Henry and Ethel Moran Moore, infant daughter Janet Louise Reese, her brothers Fred Watson and wife Louise Sawyer Moore and George Wyndle Moore, granddaughter Dana Reese Miller and her beloved aunt Wilma Moran Sowers and two brother-in-laws Ray Otey Franklin (Marcheta) and Charles DeWitt and Claudine Willis Reese.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Wayne Lynwood Reese and wife Linda, Steven Dewey Reese and wife Deborah, grandson Michael Wayne Reese, granddaughters Laura Reese Armentrout and husband Cabot and Allison Reese Wagner and husband Tyler, sister-in-laws Betty H. Moore (George) and Marcheta Reese Franklin (Otey). Charlotte is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends to numerous to list.
We would like to thank the staffs of Richfield Living, Joseph C. Thomas Memory Unit, Assisted Living in Salem and Richfield Roanoke Campus, Rainbow Acres Memory Unit, Long Term Care. Charlotte resided in the units as a result of Vascular Dementia, since January 2020 and received lots of love and care from the staff and developed many friendships. Also we would like to thank Carilion Hospice Services for their exceptional care. She went under hospice on July 19th as a precaution from symptoms other than her heart issues. Special thanks to Lynn M. Davis for her care, love and support; a true friend indeed. Charlotte was a fighter and persevered no matter what obstacles came her way. Sometimes she would give you her “evil eye” if she didn’t like what you said or did, but mostly she had a beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes. Everyone loved seeing Ms Charlotte!
Charlotte’s graveside service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1pm at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, Virginia. Pastor Melanie Duncan Franklin, her nephew’s wife, will conduct the service. We would like to thank those who have expressed sympathy and love to Charlotte’s remaining family; it is heartfelt.
