Beverly Elaine Monroe Giarla
June 15, 1931 – October 18, 2017
Beverly was born and raised in Ticonderoga, New York, where she met the love of her life Richard (Dick). She and Dick were married in 1950 and had 57 wonderful years together on this Earth. In 1952, Beverly and her family moved to Salem, VA, where she and her husband worked for General Electric. They were blessed with three sons and too many horses, dogs, and cats to count.
Beverly had a rich and varied work history: Director of Camp on Craig, Assistant Director of the YWCA in Roanoke, as well as the Director of the YWCA in Salem.
She was an avid Bridge player and tournament director for the online bridge tournaments for many years.
Her main passion in life besides her family was known by all she knew: Horses, horses, and more horses. She raised, boarded, and showed many Blue Ribbon winners in the Racking Horse Association, where she made many enduring friendships.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Emma Monroe; also sisters, Amy and Ona; and brother, Owen; her beloved husband, Dick, went ahead of her and we know the joy they have finally being reunited.
Left to mourn the loss of her passing are Sons: Dana and wife, Bonnie; Wade, of Roanoke, and Rick of Waxhall, NC. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Lastly she leaves behind her very special furry child, Murphy, and a very annoying feathered child, Popeye.
The family would like to thank the tireless effort of the staff at Richfield. Their respect and dedication was and will always be greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to an animal charity of your choice.
Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, with a procession following to the Graveside at 1pm at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
Family will host a celebration of her life at the family home in Roanoke immediately following the burial.
