Anna Bowes Fowler, 88, of Catawba, Va., passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born on December 15, 1933, in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., to the late Blanchard T Bowes, Sr. and Mary Dotson Bowes. Anna was also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Arden L. Fowler; her brothers, Edselle Bowes, Sr., Blanchard T. Bowes, Jr., Wilford “Billy” Bowes, and Charles Bowes; her sisters, Kathleen Bowes, Betty Tuduy, Jane Pitsenbarger, and Jeanette Vinson.
Surviving are her son, Joe Fowler (Sharon) of Shawsville, Va.; daughter, Sylvia Prillaman (Frank) of Glade Hill, Va.; grandchildren, Shelton Fowler, Ernie Fowler, Michael Prillaman, and Faith Prillaman Spomer; great-grandchildren, Austin, Jeremiah, and Alivia Fowler, Mekayla Freese and Emily Fowler, Reagan and Harper Prillaman, and Elijah Spomer; brothers, Robert “Bobby” Bowes and John Bowes; sister, Shirley Sizemore; many nieces and nephews, and a close friend, Tennessee Reynolds.
In 1996 Anna retired from General Electric in Salem, Va., and she graduated from Jacksonville Theological Seminary with a B.A. degree in Theology. Over the years much of Anna’s life revolved around church work. She taught Sunday School and ministered at many churches throughout the Roanoke Valley. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and trips to her home state of West Virginia. Anna was very fond of Cocker Spaniels. She leaves behind her special little black one, Phoebe, who she loved so much.
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will follow in the chapel of Lotz Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. Entombment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park.
