Andrew "Andy" Jackson Greer

Andrew Jackson Greer, (Andy), 69, of Salem, Virginia passed away June 25, 2021.  He was born in Pikeville, Kentucky to the late Gene and Kate Huff Greer.  He was retired from Norfolk Southern where he had been employed after graduating from Virginia Tech with a degree in engineering. He was a member of Edgewood Christian Church serving as elder, Sunday School teacher or wherever he was needed.

Andy is survived by his wife Judy Whittemore Greer and four children, Jason Greer (Garnett) of Richmond, Virginia, Mark Greer (Pappy) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Scott Bowers (Jessica), of Salem, Virginia, and Jessica Webb (Andrew) of Roanoke, Virginia, one brother, Doug Greer (Cindy) of Greensboro, North Carolina, six grandchildren, Jackson and Mia Greer, Dashiell Greer, Tré Webb, (Anna), and Nathan and Leah Bowers and one great granddaughter, Laura Webb.

A private family burial service will be held Tuesday, July 6th at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Salem, Virginia.  The family will also receive friends on Tuesday, July 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Edgewood Christian Church, 1006 Peck Street, Roanoke, Virginia followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM.

Above all, Andy loved the Lord and tried to follow his example by being a servant.  He loved to help people, preferring to help privately and unknown without any credit.  He loved his family and prayed for them and their salvation, often on his knees.  Andy loved Christian music, especially Southern Gospel.

One of Andy’s hobbies was woodworking making some beautiful furniture.  He loved to fish, especially with his buddy Bill Tolbert and the guys from church at the Custer cabin.  Another love of Andy’s was traveling making new friends and memories.

Thanks to our immediate family and church family who have helped with Andy, sent cards, brought food and gifts, called, texted and prayed for us during the past year.

A special thanks to his care givers especially Lindsey and Stacy for providing such loving care and to Lila and Jennifer from Kindred Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Christian Camp, 1751 Sterling Dr. McCoy, Virginia or to the Salem Food Pantry, 915 Union Street, Salem, Virginia.
