Alma Gay Oquin went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Gay was born in Dickenson County, Va., on September 26, 1933. She met her sweetheart, Jimmy at Haysi High School and they celebrated 66 years of marriage July 16th of this year.
Gay was a long time faithful member of Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church in Salem. She loved her God and church family and wanted to be in church whenever the doors were open. She loved to sew and in doing so made dresses for her daughters when they were young, she made beautiful country curtains and quilts. She would do anything she could for her family that she loved dearly.
Gay was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Vesta Wood; brother and sister-in-law, Alvie and Dorothy Wood; grandson, Rocky Dvorak; son-in-law, Chuck Kolenski.
Gay is survived by her loving husband, James Oquin; daughters, Kathy Kolenski, Penny Casey (Sam); son, Jeff O’Quinn (Denise); grandchildren, David O’Quinn, Brittany Collins, Ryan Casey (Destiny); great-grandson, Matthew Collins; niece, Susan Wood; nephew, Randy Wood, of Conway, SC; and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church, 1920 Lucas St., Salem, VA.; on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 12 Noon with Brian Gordon officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
