Dorothy Alice Woolwine Harrison, of Salem, Va. went home to be with the Lord on May 11, 2018.
She was born in Herdon, West Virginia to Amanda Agness and Charles Robley Woolwine, Sr., the fifth of eight children. She grew up in Narrows, Va. In 1945 she entered Roanoke Memorial School of Nursing, graduating in 1947 and worked at Roanoke Memorial Hospital/Carilion in several positions, retiring after 42 years in nursing and administration. She was a longtime member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church in Roanoke.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph Van Buren Harrison; son- in- law, Donald W. Hicks, and is survived by brother, Charles R. Woolwine, Jr. and wife, Laura; sons and daughter- in- laws, Glenn and Cathy Harrison, Michael T. and Teresa Harrison; daughters and sons- in- law, Kathy and Carson Mills, Robin and Keith Maxwell; and daughter, Celeste Hicks; grandchildren, Elizabeth Harrison Aldridge, Tamara and Eli Harrison, Ashley Harrison Bower, Adam Harrison, Christopher Mills, Amanda Hicks McLean, Michael Hicks, Kimberly Maxwell Rupe and Timothy Maxwell; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff and members of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, who stayed in contact with Alice through cards, calls and visits, and lovingly thank Matilda, caregiver and friend who brightened all our days with her goodness.
The family requests that memorials be made to Huntington Court United Methodist Church, 3333 Williamson Rd., Roanoke, VA 24012.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Lotz Salem Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Memorial service will be in Lotz Salem Chapel on Wednesday, May 16 at 10 a.m. with Reverend Jeff Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
